AI Use Policy

Effective date: May 21, 2025 · NumericaLTI Learning Inc.

1. Overview

NumericaLTI uses AI-assisted features to enhance learning. This policy explains how AI is used within the platform, what data is involved, and how we ensure responsible use in an academic context.

2. AI Features

The AI Tutor feature (available on Student and Classroom plans) provides step-by-step hints, equation validation feedback, and conceptual explanations for numerical methods. AI responses are generated to supplement — not replace — instruction from a qualified educator.

3. How AI Works in NumericaLTI

When you use the AI Tutor, your equation, chosen method, current iteration step, and a short session context are sent to an AI language model. The model returns an explanation or hint. No personally identifiable information beyond your equation input is included in AI prompts.

4. Data and AI Models

AI features are powered by third-party large language model APIs. Your inputs are used solely to generate the response for your session. We do not use your submissions to train AI models. We do not store AI conversation history beyond your current session.

5. Accuracy and Limitations

AI-generated explanations are educational aids and may occasionally be imprecise. All numerical results displayed on the platform come from deterministic mathematical algorithms — not AI. Students should verify AI explanations against course materials and consult their instructor for authoritative guidance.

6. Academic Integrity

Students are responsible for ensuring their use of AI-assisted hints complies with their institution's academic integrity policies. NumericaLTI AI Tutor is designed to guide learning through hints and conceptual questions, not to produce answers for direct submission. Instructors may disable AI features for their course section.

7. Instructor Controls

Instructors on the Classroom plan can disable AI Tutor access for their students on a per-assignment or per-course basis from the instructor analytics dashboard.

8. No Automated Grading Decisions

AI is never used to make grading decisions. All grades submitted via Canvas LTI grade passback are based solely on the deterministic output of verified numerical algorithms.

9. Transparency

Any content generated by AI is clearly labeled within the interface with an "AI Tutor" badge so students always know when they are receiving AI-generated guidance versus system output.

10. Changes

As AI capabilities evolve, this policy will be updated. We will notify users of material changes at least 14 days in advance.
